The Central Institute for Research on
Buffaloes (Main Campus) is located at Hisar in
Haryana state on the National Highway No.10 between
latitude 29.10°N and longitude 75.46°E, about
170 Km north-west of the national capital - New Delhi.
It is about 3 km from the Hisar Bus Stand on the Sirsa
Road and about 5 km from the Hisar Railway Station.
(Nearest airport is the Indira Gandhi International
Airport, New Delhi for international flights and Palam
Airport, New Delhi for domestic connections.)
It can be approached by road from New Delhi via National
Highway No. 10, which proceeds onwards to Sirsa and
Ferozepur towards western border of the country. National
Highway No. 65 joins Hisar with Chandigarh, the capital
of Haryana State in the north and various cities of
Rajasthan towards the south. Buses for Hisar are available
every 15 minutes from the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT)
at New Delhi.
Hisar is on the railway map with broad gauze line from
Delhi / New Delhi railway stations via Rewari - Rohtak
- Bhiwani and onwards to some cities of Punjab such
as Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Bhathinda on the
other side. It is also connected to Jaipur and Bikaner
in Rajasthan. However, there are no fast/long distance
trains touching Hisar and the frequency of other train
services is also less.
At the main campus, Main Lab.-cum-Administrative Building
houses most of the laboratories of the three Divisions
as well as different offices of the administration,
including Director's office, ARIS cell, library, committee
room and a seminar hall. Some laboratories and coordinating
unit of the 'Network Project' are located in the Old
Building. Ten well-designed animal sheds with adjoining
open paddocks, sheds for research animals, feed and
fodder stores, workshop and offices of some sections
are located in the Old Campus. A Trainees' Hostel-cum-Guest
House is available on campus for visiting scientists
and officers. Various categories of staff quarters are
also located on campus.
Ultra-modern animal shed with facilities for automatic
feeding, cleaning, milking, heat detection and recording
systems is being established at the main campus. Similarly, a modern Semen Freezing
Laboratory is nearing completion of construction, which shall give
a boost to frozen semen production at this centre in
view of its large demand from the country
and abroad. Similarly, Feed and Fodder Processing facilities
are being strengthened.
The Sub-Campus is located
at Bir Dosanjh about 8 km from Nabha town in Patiala
District. It is off the National Highway No. 1 in Punjab,
approx. 250 KM from Delhi. The nearest airport is at
Chandigarh, 100 Km. from this Sub-Campus has newly
constructed Administrative-Block in addition
to the old Laboratory building housing library, semen processing,
nutrition and genetics lab. Other available infrastructures
include bull sheds, well-designed animal sheds, calving
pen, feed stores and fodder processing unit, besides
staff quarters and a guest house.
The Institute at the main campus has 1009 acres of
land of which only 25% is arable. About 100 acres of
salt affected land is being reclaimed in collaboration
with CSSRI, Karnal. The sub-campus at Nabha has 588
